Joyce-Hoven named Producing Director of the Inge Center

Independence Community College has announced Hannah Joyce-Hoven as the next Producing Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts in Independence, Kansas.

Over the past five years, Joyce-Hoven has worked as a consultant and freelance producer on various projects for the William Inge Center. She currently serves as Director of Membership Programs at the Playwrights’ Center in Minneapolis, where she lives, and will continue to serve as Director of one of the nation's largest playwriting education and resource centers in the US.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with whom we have worked very closely on previous festivals,” said Dan Barwick, college president. “Hannah’s broad experience in theatre, and her ties to Independence, will be tremendously advantageous to the success of the festival.”

During her initial stint at the Inge Center, Joyce-Hoven was on the executive producing team, as the Director of Operations, for twelve Festivals honoring visionary American playwrights, co-producing over 40 new play development workshops with playwrights from across the country, and hosting hundreds of guest theater artists on the Center’s campus.

She is the ultimate playwright fangirl--In her almost two decades working in new play development, Hannah has helped to develop the new work of some the country’s finest playwrights, among them Caridad Svich, Alice Tuan, and E.M. Lewis.

Originally from St. Louis, Joyce-Hoven has worked and performed with a number of theater companies throughout the Midwest, including the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, St. Louis Shakespeare Company, and Prison Performing Arts.

Joyce-Hoven serves on the board of the William Inge Festival Foundation. Her education/training includes: BA Wheaton College, Lincoln Center Education teaching artist certification, and Yoga teacher training. She is also an actor, singer, and yogi.
