Emily Goodpasture Giles

Emily Goodpasture Giles is a director, playwright, mosaic artist, and theatre educator from Kansas with degrees in acting (Trinity University,) elementary education (Winona State University)and theatre studies in production and design (Southern Oregon University.)  Emily started her directing career at the age of seven organizing neighborhood kids in her garage to put on a variety show of skits, poems, and of course showtunes. Emily taught theatre for nineteen years in Wichita, KS at two different private K-12 schools.  In 2014, Emily was selected to take her students to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they performed five short plays by none other than William Inge.   Over the course of her time in Wichita, Emily and her students were routinely nominated/won multiple Music Theatre of Wichita Jester Awards and National Youth Art Awards.  In addition to directing over 80 productions, has also written 9 for her younger students to perform. In 2021, Emily and her husband moved to Lawrence, Kansas where Emily is the Education Director at Theatre Lawrence.  Besides managing all things education and directing their Youth Troupe productions, Emily also produces and directs their annual Penguin Project, a musical performed by students with disabilities in all the roles and assisted by peer mentors of similar age.  This summer the Penguins will be performing Frozen Jr.  Emily has a special place in her heart for the Inge Center, having brought her students here for over 13 years for the annual High School 24 Hour Plays and the Inge Festival.  Getting to direct The Revoluntionists at the Inge Festival is a true honor for Emily.
