The Dark at the Top of the Stairs

THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS premiered on Broadway in 1957 with a cast including Pat Hingle, Theresa Wright, and Eileen Heckart. The 1960 movie included Robert Preston, Dorothy McGuire, Angela Lansbury, Eve Arden, and Shirley Knight. It is considered William Inge’s most biographical work, inspired by his childhood in Independence.  “We are thrilled to be bringing to life this moving and poetic play in celebration of the 40^th William Inge Theatre Festival.  The creative team has been looking forward to this for a very long time, and this production has brought together professionals, community members, and students in the hopes of reigniting the passion for Inge’s incredible work as a playwright, and as an artist.” Paul Molnar -Director
