To encourage and recognize achievement by high school-age theater students, the William Inge Festival Foundation, the Inge Center, and the Independence Community College Theater Department sponsor an annual High School Acting and Playwriting Competition. Each year, the Inge Foundation awards cash scholarships to winners, and selected scenes by acting competition students are presented during the Inge Festival. For May 2020, the Playwriting Competition was held; unfortunately, the acting competition was canceled.
