William Inge Center for the Arts Welcomes Bruce Walsh as Spring 2025 Playwright-In-Residence

The William Inge Center for the Arts at Independence Community College is so excited to announce Bruce Walsh as the Spring 2025 Inge Playwright-In-Residence. Bruce Walsh’s plays include Grown-Ass LouisBerserker, and Prospect Hill.  Since receiving his MFA in Playwriting from Indiana University in 2017, his work has been produced around the country, winning the Heideman Award, the Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play Award, and the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Competition. Bruce lives in a rural county in Pennsylvania

Bruce’s residency at the William Inge Center allows community members, students, and local artists to engage with him through readings and special events.

The William Inge Center for the Arts, located at Independence Community College, offers a nurturing space for playwrights to develop new work, and the Inge Playwright-In-Residence program provides a unique opportunity for playwrights to immerse themselves in a creative environment.

About Bruce Walsh

Bruce Walsh is an award-winning playwright whose works include Grown-Ass Louis, Berserker, and Prospect Hill. Since earning his MFA in Playwriting from Indiana University in 2017, his plays have been produced across the country and have garnered prestigious honors, including the Heideman Award, the Gary Garrison National Ten-Minute Play Award, and the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Competition.

In addition to his work as a playwright, Walsh has an extensive background in journalism, having served as an arts reporter and editor for Philadelphia Metro and City Paper. His diverse professional experiences—including roles as a stay-at-home father, house painter, short-order cook, and college professor—deeply inform his storytelling, offering a rich perspective on contemporary American life.

Currently, Walsh teaches literature, writing, and theater at Messiah University and Elizabethtown College. He has been recognized as a finalist for both the Terrence McNally Award and the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Residing in rural Pennsylvania with his son, he continues to explore and contribute to the evolving landscape of American theater.
