Aaron Michael Scully, Ph. D.

Aaron Michael Scully, Ph. D. is a teacher, scholar, playwright, director and actor. Aaron received his PhD from the University of Missouri in May of 2018. He is currently an instructor at the University of Central Missouri. Aaron teaches playwriting, screen writing, acting, directing, theatre history and general theatre education classes. Aaron’s plays have been performed in Washington D.C., Alexandria, VA, Seattle, Minneapolis, Des Moines, and Columbia, MO. He is the 2017 recipient of the Planet Earth Playwriting Award and has been a semi-finalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. He is the Vice-Chair for the National Playwriting Program through KCACTF and was the Graduate Liaison for the Playwriting Symposium for the Mid-America Theatre Conference. In the summer of 2017, Aaron played the role of Father Flynn in a production of Doubt: A Parable for Crane River Theatre in Kearney, NE. His scholarly interests are in Playwriting and Playwriting Pedagogy, Theatre History and Theatre for Social Change. Aaron’s dissertation examines how playwriting techniques and dramatic works can be used to understand and treat the disease of alcoholism.
